The single most useful resource during clerkship year was the AMBOSS knowledge library, which provides quick, condensed, and relevant information for pretty much any topic you might run into on a clerkship or while preparing for an exam. The library when accessed via the smartphone app is the perfect tool to quickly look up any unfamiliar conditions or drugs you may encounter while pre-charting, but it also has more extensive, in-depth knowledge for when you need a bit of help with an assessment & plan or if an attending asks you to present on a topic at rounds. Whether you access it from your phone or from a computer, it's all laid out in a format that's much easier to sift through than, say, UpToDate, and the included graphics, flowcharts, and imagine examples are incredibly helpful too. It is simply the single best digital reference for any clinical student.
When I get a new topic, AMBOSS is great for accessible and categorized information; I get epidemiology, path, diagnostics, & treatment in an easy-to-use format. In contrast to UpToDate that has focused articles (e.g. article for rate control in Afib with RVR), AMBOSS is great to get the big picture on a disease and then hone my PubMed or UpToDate search if needed. I'm also a big fan of their guideline summaries; for example, when studying asthma guidelines, they clearly compare GINA 2023 vs NAEPP 2020 in a way not found elsewhere.
I found AMBOSS to be super helpful in the pre-clinical phase as a source of extra practice questions and easy-to-digest articles I topics that I had a bit more trouble understanding. That being said, as I transitioned to clerkships, I thought the utility of AMBOSS greatly increased. I think the clerkship-specific study guides have been essential to my success on rotations thus far since they provide a great framework for the important topics to focus on and curate questions to facilitate understanding. I use AMBOSS nearly everyday to refresh myself on a topic while pre-rounding, look up articles after rounds, and then use the study guide when I get home.
Amboss was such a great resource. I liked the student geared learning and used it more than i used up to date
AMBOSS has helped me tremendously during both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of medical school. During Phase 1, their question banks were incredibly helpful to prepare for exams; their articles and links to additional outside resources made researching for PaCE cases enjoyable and the material more digestible; and using their articles to supplement lecture information made a huge difference when it came to grasping the material. It was incredibly helpful to have a reliable source, such as AMBOSS, during didactics, given that we're just starting to learn medicine and cannot always decipher between what is reliable versus what is not during the beginning of that process.During Phase 2, I can honestly say there has not been a day that has gone by that I have not utilized AMBOSS. When pre-charting on patients, I can use AMBOSS as a supplemental learning tool to revisit many of the disease processes that we learned in Phase 1 and refresh my memory. When studying for shelf exams, I have used their articles and question banks several times as study resources. While I haven't started Phase 3 yet, given how much I have utilized AMBOSS in Phase 2, I see myself continuing to use their resources to study for Step exams and during my sub-I rotations.
I have used AMBOSS during all four years of medical school. In pre-clerkship years, the articles and question banks helped me to learn and solidify concepts. During my clerkship years, AMBOSS was super helpful during rotations. There is a clinician option that allows you to see treatment plans and labs needed for diagnoses while on rounds. I used AMBOSS primarily for shelf-studying and for STEP 2. They have specific study plans for all clerkships and STEP 2, which helped me to excel in all my exams.
It help me both prepare for rotations and fill me in on clinical knowledge during rotations. During my first and second years, I also used it as a source of practice questions.
Amboss is set up in a way that makes relevant information easily accessible. I use the knowledge app frequently while on rounds. I love that practice questions are now linked to anki cards which I use daily.
AMBOSS was without a doubt a key element to my success in PBL. Not only do the articles allow quick access to key information during the PBL sessions, but the ability to open board-style questions pertaining to the article was an unbeatable functionality. I worked through the entire AMBOSS q-bank prior to taking COMLEX, including the OMM questions, and while AMBOSS questions are difficult, they prepared me to focus on key words, have deep knowledge of the subject, to be ready to tackle any questions thrown at me on test day. AMBOSS integration with Anki (a free resource I would say 90% of students use at LECOM) is top-tier and allows students to do questions from flashcards they make, do questions tailored specifically to flashcard concepts they're struggling with. Specifically to OMM ,though applicable to every discipline, they make easy to understand charts/graphics/articles about various OMM topics; I used it frequently for counter-strain and cranial! Now on clinical rotations, I still use AMBOSS everyday, its ability to locate key articles with all the information I need has helped me tremendously on formulating patient care plans, preparing for rounds, and getting ready for shelf exams. Not only that AMBOSS specifically makes q-bank sets for each shelf and discipline for both COMLEXI/COMLEXII and the USMLE exams.
AMBOSS is far more superior in terms of coverage of material compared to other resources. AMBOSS has better supporting images, histology with descriptions (key at our histo heavy school), and one of the best Qbanks. For those who use anki, its anki add-on makes reviews so much easier. For those who do not use anki, the ability to search an article, reduce the info to 'high-yield' material and give it a quick read is just as key. You can then test your knowledge with the questions integrated right into the article.
AMBOSS has been so helpful and easy to use during my preclinical and my clerkships. Whether it’s practicing listening to heart murmurs, looking up a medication for dosage, or the most recent management of a disorder that you may need to brush up on, it’s all available on one platform! My favorite AMBOSS tool is using their Anki integration after completing a set of practice questions
Amboss provides an incredibly consistent and extensive product to study, in both clinical and non clinical years. From the library to qbank, amboss is able to both teach material and assess if students are retaining information. The tools provided are great from dividing the large amounts of info and learning in a controlled, calm manner.
Good additional practice for Step exams as well as brief clinical reference. The more difficult questions helped improve thought process by demanding intricate knowledge of the material
how neatly the information is organized; it's so much easier to jump on amboss and find a well-organized set of information instead of sifting through other resources
I find it helpful that there are easy to understand bulleted lists highlighting key concepts related to pathophysiology, diagnostics, symptoms, and treatments. It is a very helpful form of medical Google.
The interface is wonderful. It truly allows you to learn from questions (e.g. being able to guess until you get the question correct).
AMBOSS is an essential tool for the classroom and in the clinic. It is especially helpful for quickly looking up accurate, high yield information related to diseases at a level of detail that you can't find on google. AMBOSS makes studying and brushing up on material so much easier, and the practice questions make for outstanding test prep.
The breadth of information and depth of concepts is incomparable
I love the Anki attachment!
I love how easy it is to find material, especially when it is directly linked to Anki!
The explanations and algorithms for work up and treatment
It has all the information I have needed so far in one place. No need to google something when Amboss will have it with a more medically-accurate explanation and everything we need to know about it. It has saved me a lot of time and I use it so often.
Clinical vignettes, diagrams especially histology, complex practice and questions and tips, integration with Anki makes very efficient to use in work flow
Being able to see new practice questions and look up any medical information that I need in the knowledge app. This is especially useful in rotations and in my daily life.
I love the interface for studying. There are different difficulty levels for questions, easy to read definitions, clear diagrams, and very expansive explanations for incorrect answers. I also love the Anki add-on for quick definitions/explanations. It is helpful that the website includes both the question bank and resources/articles in one website/app. It is also better priced than UWorld
